No procedure is required when entering the library.
Reading
- Most of the materials in the library are accessible freely.
- Ask at the service desk for use following materials (9:00 – 16:30): Rare books, journals before early Showa period, Japanese style books, microform materials, slides, master theses with usage conditions.
- The books that described "in laboratory" on "Status" of "Holdings Listing" of OPAC are in laboratory (In the case of Journals, "研究室配架" on "Note1" ). If you want to use them, please apply at the counter or by email. It takes some days to use the materials in laboratory. Some materials might not be able to used.
Shelving location
- CD, DVD
- Members of Nagoya University can borrow or watch audiovisual materials in the Library.
- It is needed that to wear earphones or headphones during watch an audiovisual material in the Library. If users doesn't have earphones or headphones, they can use one of the library.
- CD-ROMs: Database type
- Database type CD-ROMs can be played on a PC in the Library. Users cannot take them out of the library.
- CD-ROMs: Journal
- Users can play the CD-ROMs of journal on a PC in the Library and take materials out of the library temporarily. (Users can make paper copy but cannot make digital copy.)
- Audiovisual systems
- Audiovisual systems can play Blu-Ray Discs, DVDs, LDs, CDs and casette tapes.
- Composite Video Signals are NTSC and PAL. Region code of Blu-Ray Disc is A, of DVD is 2.
- Users can watch bringing audiovisual materials in the Library. (We give priority to audiovisual materials in the Library. In addition, prohibit which is contrary to public order or morality.)
- Service hours: 9:00-16:30
- Users cannot borrow microform materials.
- Reader for microform materials in the library is not with print function. (Users can take materials out of the library temporarily and make the photocopy in Central Library.)
- Circulation materials: books, audio-visual materials
- Non-circulating materials: journals, reference books, master's thesis, CD-ROMs, microform materials, rare books, Japanese style books
- Reference books, Journals,CD-ROMs of journals, Microform Materials: not for lending but allowed to take materials out of the library temporarily.
- Rare books, journals before early Showa period, Japanese style books: Not for lending but ask a librarian to take materials out of the library temporarily.

About the call number label
Call number labels are attached on the spine of the books, which are arranged in numerical and alphabetical orders.
Blue labels are for Japanese books and red labels are for Non-Japanese books.
First section is classification number.
Second section is Author's initial.
Third section is series number.
Fourth section is book ID.
If there are words such as "文庫" "新書" or "参" in the third section,
they are arranged in the respective sections.

Borrowing
General Borrowing
To borrow books or other materials, please submit your ID/library card to the circulation desk.

Lending for a Long Time
- Faculty members in our School and Graduate School can borrow LIL books for a long time.
- Students cannot borrow LIL books for a long time.
Returning
- Return materials that you borrowed to the circulation desk within the due date.
- When the library is closed, return them to the book drop outside (located in front of the library).
- Return LIL materials to LIL, not other libraries. Materials that you borrowed from another library, please return them to that library.
Reservation
- Reservation is available for the material on loan. Search it on the OPAC, press the "reserve" button and log in with THERS account/Password. →[Guide Sheet: Reserve Books That are Currently on Loan]
- When the material returns, you will be informed via E-mail.
Photocopying
- Photocopy machine in the library is only for public expense.
- If you want to make photocopy at privete expense, you can take materials out of the library temporarily.
- You should fill out an application form and show your ID. Return materials by 30 minutes before closing time.
- However, the following materials are not allowed to be taken out of the library for any reason:
- Master's thesis
- Audiovisual Materials that can not be used out of the library, except use for class
- CD-ROMs that can not be used out of the library
Copy Order and Loan Order
- If a material you want is not available at Nagoya University, you can receive them through Interlibrary Loan Service.
- We accept the request by faculty and staff members belonging to the Library of Informatics and Languages. ※Students can apply to the Central Library for Interlibrary Loan Service. The same applies to faculty and staff members who want pick up ordered materials at Central Library.
- Please refer to the links for the number of days needed and fees (Copy Request/ Lending Request).
- When the books or journals are available in Higashiyama campus except for the Affiliated Upper and Lower Secondary Schools, please visit the library by yourself.
How to order
- You can request materials on "InterLibrary Copy Request" or "InterLibrary Loan Request" of "Library Services", see also a guide sheet. To be able to use the service, THERS account/Password are required.
- If you would like to receive in the Library of Informatics and Languages, please select "Info and Lang" as your pickup lib when applying.
- You can also submit an "Application Form of InterLibrary Copy or Loan Service" to the library or send it to "libinft.mail.nagoya-u.ac.jp" by e-mail when you cannot use OPAC.
Visiting Other Libraries
- Members of Nagoya University can use national university libraries and some institute libraries in Tokai area with ID card of Nagoya University. Other institute libraries may requires a letter of introduction.
- If you need a letter of introduction, ask a librarian at central library.
